A few weeks back I lost my 14 year old chihuahua Molly. I was so sad, she’d been my sweet girl for so long. It’s not as if we were without a dog, we still had four. But I missed Molly and I love chihuahuas. I still have her brother and he is also a senior citizen. Molly can never be replaced but it seemed the right thing to find a rescue chihuahua who needed a forever home. I searched around on PetFinder and found several dogs. After a day of thinking it over, and with Tom’s encouragement, we took a ride to Laconia to the animal shelter to meet a cute little pup who had been abused and was in need of a good home. As these things go, it was love at first sight. I adored her and she was quite happy to cuddle with me. The shelters requirement was that our other 4 dogs come for a meet and greet. So the very next morning we loaded our 4 dogs into the van and off we went again for the 90 minute ride. Our dogs were calm and docile - no problems, so were were approved for the adoption and took our new family member home that day! We named her Annie and she is so adorable. She bonded to me immediately and is very sweet. She came to the shop the first weekend we had her and she climbed up on the back of my chair, put her head on my shoulder and had a nap. She is timid with men, perhaps it was a man who abused her. My husband Tom is winning her over with his calm and patience and the other dogs have accepted her. We are happy to have her in our family.
WELCOME ANNIE!

I am so happy for you and your Annie. What a wonderful feeling it gives to adopt a pet, I’m sure she is in for a great life of loving and will return it to you a hundred fold.
I have been reading your posts for a couple of years, I found you, of course, thru the Internet. The reason I found you is because, I was born in Newport, in Nov. 1954. Only lived there for 3 years before we moved on to New York. My father was the Methodist minister there. His name was Harry C. Mikels, and I’m just wondering if anyone still remembers him. He passed away in 2000 at the age of 86. I still remember living in Newport and Mom and Dad always had great memories of it. Mom passed away in 2010 at the age of 90. Dad went on preaching right up til he was about 80, he retired earlier but was always interested in people and loved to speak.
I have an older brother who married a girl from Newport, and they are celebrating their 56th wedding anniversary!!
Best of Luck to you and all your pets. I recently adopted a kitten from the rescue and she is a great comfort to me.
Thank you,
